What's your why?  PART A

WHY:

I believe that learning is a lifelong process, and that is why it is important to  encourage the holistic development of each learner by providing them choice, ownership and voice through authentic learning where they can achieve excellence through effort and grit. My goal is to create a significant learning environment (CSLE) to assist them in becoming active, lifelong learners who embrace challenges and find success, even in small increments.

Influencer

My innovation plan focuses on creating a significant learning environment (CSLE) in the foreign language classroom at a small, private, Catholic school. Before my employment, foreign language instruction at the school was unstructured, with no definite plan for each grade to progress to the next level. The principal hired me to develop a program that would provide students with the necessary skills to move on to high school-level Spanish. Keeping this goal in mind, I proposed creating a blended classroom where students would benefit from personalized instruction and technology to enhance their overall learning experience.

Installing 4DX

In creating an implementation plan for the innovation proposal, the Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX) strategy provides a clear path to success. According to the 4DX plan, it is essential that the team focuses on no more than two goals (Covey, 2021). For establishing a blended learning environment in the foreign language classroom, we are concentrating on one Wildly Important Goal (WIG): achieving 100% student participation in the DuoLingo program by May 2025. As the leader of this initiative, my primary objective is to execute the strategy effectively and produce results. To maintain focus on the WIG while planning and teaching lessons from the curriculum, DuoLingo will be assigned as the only homework for the Spanish classroom, preventing students from getting caught up in the daily whirlwind of other tasks.

Self-differentiated leadership and bringing the organization change process together

Part A

Becoming a Self-Differentiated Leader

To become a self-differentiated leader, the focus must begin with self-awareness and self-care. According to Edwin Friedman, becoming a differentiated leader is a journey toward maturity that starts with prioritizing oneself. This involves developing a strong sense of identity and being able to take a well-defined stand on important issues while remaining connected to colleagues and those being led. An effective leader must understand their own values, direction, and identity to navigate the complexities of leadership effectively.

Crucial Conversations perspective and strategy

Using and implementing the tools and methodology provided in the Crucial Conversations book is a critical aspect of becoming a self-differentiated leader. The approaches mentioned in the book will assist me in developing and leading crucial conversations within my organization as I begin implementing my innovation project. The tools mentioned in Crucial Conversations will enable me to navigate high-stakes conversations with confidence, thereby ensuring a lasting impact on the school's Spanish program.
