Organizational Change Plan/Strategy

Part B

Objective:

The objective of this plan is to develop a significant learning environment (CSLE) within the Spanish program at St. Anne Catholic School, fostering student engagement and ownership of learning through the use of COVA principles using the DuoLingo platform paired with teacher-led instruction as outlined in my innovation proposal. (Why Part A) I believe that learning is a lifelong process, and that is why it is important to  encourage the holistic development of each learner by providing them choice, ownership and voice through authentic learning where they can achieve excellence through effort and grit. (Why part B) Immediately, I can begin by fostering a growth mindset. With this new mindset, students will perceive challenges as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks.  They will  understand that intelligence and abilities develop through commitment and perseverance.

Implementation of Crucial Conversations:

Utilizing the methodology from the book, Crucial Conversations, is crucial in managing resistance and fostering collaboration. This approach will assist in navigating high-stakes conversations while managing strong emotions and differing opinions by providing a safe place where these conversations can take place, ensuring a lasting impact on the Spanish program.

Addressing Resistance:

Resistance to change is expected as it disrupts routine and adds perceived workload. To counter this, clear communication and empathy are essential. For example, the initial resistance from a science teacher and the school technologist was managed by maintaining factual communication and understanding their concerns.

Effective leadership begins with self-awareness and self-care. By developing a strong sense of identity and setting clear goals, a self-differentiated leader can navigate emotional processes and maintain connections with colleagues without compromising the objectives.

Implementation Influencer Strategy

Leadership Support:

Communicate the goals and strategy of the Innovation Proposal to the administration.

Introduction to the Platform:

Introduce students to DuoLingo, provide a link to join the class, and explain program objectives.

Infrastructure and Technology:

Ensure adequate internet access and functionality of the platform with the help of technologists.

Communication and Community Building:

Clearly articulate program objectives to students, emphasize the competitive component, and foster a sense of community by allowing students to name their team and select a logo.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

Using the platform’s analytics, provide weekly progress reports to track student performance. Encourage students who are falling behind by offering additional support and resources. Highlight the top performers to motivate all students and recognize their achievements.

Celebration and Recognition:

Publicize class productivity, celebrate the most productive students, and hold a class party for the top-performing teams at the end of each semester.

Installing 4DX - Goals and Measurement

Wildly Important Goal (WIG):

Achieve 100% student participation, with each student completing 2 hours per month on DuoLingo, by May 2025.

Monthly Targets:

Incrementally increase participation goals each month until students reach 2 hours of logged work time within the application by May 2025.

Assessment Tools:

Using DuoLingo’s analytics, review weekly and monthly statistics for the class and for the individual students’ progress to track overall plan’s strategy to achieve 100%  class participation.

Conclusion

By focusing on self-awareness, managing emotional dynamics, and implementing crucial conversations, the goal of this plan is  to create a more effective and engaging learning environment. This approach will encourage students to take ownership of their learning, leading to improved student outcomes and a sustainable change in the school's Spanish program.
