Who owns the ePortfolio?

The COVA approach in this class gives us a clear understanding that ownership of the ePortfolio belongs to the creator. By giving us a choice in how we create our ePortfolio, the instructors are helping us take ownership of what we post and how we present our work. Ownership is more than just saying that the ePortfolio belongs to me, it is saying that the ePortfolio is mine in a more personal way. It is a compilation of my thoughts and learning process and this truly makes it all mine. It is my voice, my vision and my creation that can be seen when looking through my ePortfolio. In this way, the ePortfolio is a catalyst for my authentic learning. In Chapter four of the COVA e-book, it talks about mapping the learner's journey by identifying key goals and stages of the creation process. The ePortfolio serves as a roadmap to the destination where the learner wants to go. In Chapter 5, CSLE+COVA, it talks about creating a learning environment that support COVA by taking into account the whole learning environment and not just the classroom. In Chapter 6, it talks about the importance of "why" we do what we are doing. The why connects learner with the learning. Students have been directed to create an e-Portfolio and now we are connecting the why with the reason for the creation of the ePortfolio. By creating a learning environment that fosters the tenants of COVA, students take ownership of their ePorfolio not simply because they created it but because it truly has become their voice, their thoughts and their creativity and that connection became possible when we understood the why.
