Creating a significant learning environment
After reading through the COVA: Inspire learning through Choice, Ownership and Voice, and Authentic Experiences, I began to reflect on my own classroom goals. I never considered using Sinek's Golden Circle as a template for how to achieve the classroom environment I want for my students. "Sinek's (2009) [sic] argues that everything we do must start with a why and that people don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it." (pg 62). At the beginning of the school year, I set out to create a blended classroom for my students. My "why" then is different from my "why" now. Then, I wanted to expose students to digital learning in the foreign language classroom. The lack of resources provided to teach a foreign language got my creating thinking going and my solution was to use Chromebooks to help me create a language lab and a way to deliver my lessons to students. The "why" now is a bit different. Although the original reasons are still valid, I can see that meeting this generation of students who have grown up with tech on their level will help them engage in more diverse learning activities such as content gaming. They learn without realizing how much they are learning though game based learning.
